Profiling
Breath for Sensitive Nervous Systems
Breathwork and nervous system regulation can be powerful tools for emotional wellbeing, but they aren’t one-size-fits-all. For neurodivergent and highly sensitive people, the nervous system may respond more intensely to changes in breathing, sensation, stimulation and internal focus. Practices that feel calming for one person can sometimes feel activating or overwhelming for another. That’s why I take an individualised, trauma-informed and neuro-affirming approach, paying attention to your unique sensory and physiological responses tailoring approaches to how you respond.
FAQs
-
No experience is needed.
You don’t need to breathe “correctly” or in a certain way. We work with what’s already available to you.
-
Breathwork is the intentional use of the breath to support awareness, regulation, and nervous system balance.
In my work, breath is used gently and responsively, and not as a performance or a technique to “push through” discomfort.
-
No. I do not use fast, forceful, or cathartic breathing styles.
This work is not about emotional release at all costs. It’s about helping your nervous system feel supported and resourced. -
This breathwork is used to support nervous system regulation, not intensity or emotional release.
Depending on your needs, this may include:Regulation-based breathing (informed by Polyvagal Theory)
Breathing to support deep rest, sleep and recovery
Breathing chemistry (reducing over-breathing, improving efficiency & capacity)
Breathing mechanics (nasal, diaphragmatic, less effortful breathing)
Breathing for movement or exercise
Breathwork to support burnout and chronic overwhelm
Breathwork to build interoceptive awareness and presence
All practices are paced, practical, and responsive to your system.
-
Most contraindications relate to extreme breathwork, such as prolonged breath holds or forceful over-breathing.
The breathwork I use is gentle and regulation-focused. There is no pushing, hyperventilation, or intense breath retention. Practices are always adapted, and breathwork is optional.
Breath-hold and over-breathing training is not for individuals with:Cardiac issues (e.g., heart disease, arrhythmias).
Uncontrolled high blood pressure or diabetes.
Severe respiratory diseases (e.g., COPD, emphysema).
Pregnancy.
History of stroke or aneurysm.
Recent high stress, anxiety or panic attacks
Psychosis or PTSD

FAQs
-
Yes, we sometimes use essential oils, sage, or gentle incense to create a calming, grounding atmosphere. These are intended to enhance the experience, but if you’re sensitive, please let us know beforehand and we’ll happily adjust. Your comfort and wellbeing always come first.
-
Please bring a yoga mat, water, comfortable layered clothing, cosy socks and an eye mask (if you prefer your own). Sessions involve lying down. Temperature can drop slightly as you enter a meditative state, so layers and pillows for comfort are recommended.
-
Snoring is natural and nothing to feel embarrassed about. Everyone experiences the practice differently, and the group environment is welcoming and non-judgmental. I would be happy to squeeze you on your big toe to let you know if you do.
-
Every pregnancy is unique, and research on sound baths during pregnancy is limited. We never place instruments directly on anyone. Please consult your physician before attending. With clearance, pregnant participants are welcome—bring extra pillows to lie comfortably on your side, as lying on your back is not recommended after the first trimester.
-
Deep rest and sound practices are generally gentle and restorative, however they may not be suitable for everyone.
If you have any medical condition, are under medical care, or are unsure whether a sound bath is appropriate for you, please consult your healthcare professional and contact me in advance to discuss your individual needs.
Your comfort is always paramount. You are welcome to adjust your position, step outside, or stop at any time during the session. Listening to your body is encouraged.
